Article summary

In the summer of 2007, for the first time in the Walloon region, a species of tern, the Common Tern (Sterna hirundo), successfully reproduced. This article discusses its installation at Lake Virelles, the result of placing a small island for this purpose, of an expanding neighbouring population, and of appropriation management of fish hatcheries. We also sketch a brief outline of its position in Europe and in the Walloon region. Then, we describe and comment upon the nesting chronology, as well as the technical details of placing the tern raft.
