Article summary

This article describes the circumstances of the first sightings of the Eurasian Pygmy Owl in Belgium for over a century. Observations in 2012 are all the more exceptional that they involve several individuals and demonstrate at least one breeding attempt. However, the breeding success in 2012 is uncertain. In 2013, at the time of writing this article, two males sing again in the same area. The discoverer currently wishes to remain anonymous and the localization of this major ornithological event is not revealed to ensure the quietness of the birds.
