Article summary

Between October 2004 and March 2005, Great Cormorant roosts from Wallonia and Brussels Region (Southern Belgium) were counted on a monthly basis, thanks to a network of more than 80 observers. A tendency to the stabilization of this wintering population can now be detected, reflected by a new decrease in wintering Cormorant numbers (- 8,6 % between 2003-04 and 2004-05) following a 13-years period of growth, but also by changes in roost site distribution and apparent hierarchical saturation of the 4 main habitat types in the study area (the Meuse River, fast-flowing rivers, canals and standing waters).
