Article summary

In 1995 a pair of Woodchat Shrike raised two or three youngs along the valley of "the Chiers" in the area of Torgny, representing the first breeding of the species in Belgium since 1982. Another pair with one young was found close to this site at Lamorteau. Both pairss were found in suitable habitats composed of meadows and hawthorn hedges. In 1996 one pair was relocated in the last site and raised one pullus. The dramatic decline in this century of this gorgeous species in Belgium and adjacent areas is discussed. It seems that the return of the Woodchat Shrike in the belgian Lorraine is certainly due to a slight increase in the frontier zone populations.
