Article summary

The Mute Swan has an almost exclusively vegetarian diet. Small animals or spawn may be incidentally ingested with aquatic plants. On May 13 1990, the predation upon old Brook Lampreys was observed at Bevercé, eastern Belgium. These fishes belong to a slow species and it may be assumed that the selected aged lampreys were easy to spot as their yellow-orange colour contrasted with the dark gravelly river bed.
