Article summary

This brief study reports on the numbers and behaviour of wintering Black Storks (Ciconia nigra) in an area of rice fields surrounding the river Guadalquivir in southwestern Spain during three seasons. This small area has been profondly transformed by intensive agriculture. It appears to hold one of the most important populations of wintering Black Storks in Europe and has remained relatively unknown as a wintering quarter until now.
