  Black Stork and people.

Article summary

Preserving wetlands is very important for the conservation of Black Stork in Belgium but, to make a wide public aware of its protection is also important. For thar reason, the RNOB initiated several actions. Toget in touch with a wide public and particularly children, a Black Stork unit was established in the Houtopia exhibition in Houffalize. This unit presents this wader but, also takes a look at different topics such as conservation actions and human problems in Africa ... Since 1995, an observation network was established allowing more Black Stork observations to be reported. This action is important because many people are involved in this species’ conservation and because it allows the identification of the richest areas to be protected. Until now, more than 250 observers took part in this campaign. Each summer, field trips are organized in areas frequented by storks. During those trips, people can learn about those particular habitats and sometimes can meet a flying Black Stork ...
