Article summary

This report deals with bird records assessed by the French-speaking Belgian rarities committee, the CH, together with a handful of records assessed by the Dutch-speaking BAHC. All the records included here concern species that were subject to acceptance by the Belgian RCs in a part of Belgium only (in Wallonia and the Brussels Region; on the East side of the river Meuse; or outside their known breeding range); these records will not be published in detail by the BAHC. For species that were included in our latest report (La Commission d'Homologation, 2003), records in this report are mainly from the years 2002-03; for the rest, they span the period 1998-2003. Recent decisions adopted by the two Belgian RCs, affecting the homologation status of some species in Belgium, are also detailed. A new upto- date list of species and subspecies considered by the RCs is annexed to this report. Noteworthy records published here include the largest Whiskered Tern influx ever recorded (with 34 accepted birds in Wallonia in 2000), as well as the second Rock Pipit and the first accepted breeding of Zitting Cisticola for Wallonia. The progression of Little Egret and Mediterranean Gull is once more confirmed, and European Bee-eater now appears to be an almost regular breeding bird. Caspian Gull is a regular visitor in Wallonia, but is seldom submitted to the committees.
