Estimation of the daily feeding duration of Bullfinches (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) in winter.
The daily feeding duration of Bullfinches was estimated by counts of active birds in a group of known size at Sart-lez-Spa (Prov. Liège) from February 23rd to 27th 2005. Females fed for a little less than 3 hours and males for 2 h 30 (Fig. 2). Feeding activity showed two peaks, the first in the morning and the second at the end of the afternoon. The morning peak occurred just after dawn in females, consisting of short bouts, and in the middle of the morning in males. Variations in the feeding time structure with temperature also appeared (Fig. 4).
