Article summary

Non-breeding summering of harriers in agricultural plain is studied in western Hainaut since 2006. To grasp this phenomenon more accurately, we wanted to know what the situation in the whole Walloon Region was. The first results seem to confirm the observations in Hainaut. Marsh Harriers, in particular females, are more numerous in all the provinces and summering shows a certain yearly variability (at least in Hainaut). The reasons are still unknown but availability of food might be considered: micromammals cycles and loss of hunting areas (set-asides).
