This note describes the first reported nesting of the Eurasian Spoonbill in Wallonia. In 2016, two pairs nested successfully in a mixed-species heronry in the swamp of Harchies-Hensies-Pommeroeul, a nesting site for Grey Herons Ardea cinerea, Great White Egrets Casmerodius albus, Little Egrets Egretta garzetta, Night Herons Nycticorax nycticorax and Cattle Egrets Bubulcus ibis. Three young (1 and 2) were raised until fledging. Since 2011, the Eurasian Spoonbills in this heronry have been observed displaying various nesting behaviours and unsuccessful attempts at nesting occured in 2014 and 2015. The successful nesting is in line with the expansion of this species elsewhere in Western Europe. It underlines again the major attractive role of this colony for many different species.
