A bird census has been realized on a 25 ha surface in the Soignes forest (Brabant). Forty-six visits were made between February and July 1976. The breeding avifauna consists of 18 species. The seven most common ones represent more than 75 % of the total : Starling, Blue Tit, Robin, Great Tit, Wren, Chaffinch and Short-toed Treecreeper. The interpretation of species maps by 11 persons shows strong individual variations. A prior experience of the participants with the biotope influences the results, but a prior experience with the census method does not seem to be of importance.
