Article summary

In a first approach to the wintering tendancy of the Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) in Belgium, Dachy and Delmée have pointed out in 1965 a bit more than 30 observations during December, January and February. Fifteen years later the author counted 186 of them during these same three months showing that the wintering tendancy was becoming more and more obvious. The increase has beeb very important since 1960 and seems to go on. The observations in the inland provinces seem now to balance those made in the coastal ones, but only two of them have crossed the "Sambre-et-Meuse" line. The sex-ratio is almost one and the birds generally look in a good physical condition. 26 birds regularly observed have averaged a 24,5 days' stay, which is sufficient to talk about wintering.
