Nidification of House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) in trees in Walloon Region.
Van Der Elst, D.
During a survey organised by the "Centrale ornithologique Aves", House Sparrow nests were noted in the open everywhere north of the Sambre-et-Meuse valleys, but they were only numerous in the western part of the Province of Hainaut and in Hesbaye, regions where intensive cultivation of cereals and sugarbeet is carried out. The nests were often grouped in colonies and were encountered most frequently along the side of main roads, at the top of broadleafed trees. Nesting on artificial supports such as lighting standards was distinctly less frequent, and was exceptional in conifers.
