Article summary

This article synthetizes the status of nine species of anatidae nesting in Wallonia and Brabant. It also gives the results of surveys carried out in 1980-1981. It shows that the Mallard is fairly abundant but the other species vary between rare and rather rare (Tableau 4). The Garganey is diminishing but other ducks have recently established themselve, and amongst these, the Pochard and Tufted Duck have rapidly increased this last years (Fig. 3). Several species have benefitted by the creation a century ago of a series of eutrophic wet zones and possibly as a result of the suspension of hunting.
