History and present status of the Middle Spotted Woodpecker's (Dendrocopos medius) populations in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.
In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, the potential area of presence of the Middle Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius) is restricted to two districts : the Boulonnais ans the hainaut-Avesnois; In the Boulonnais district, the Middle Spotted Woodpecker was reported in the XIXth century but seems to have disappeared today. In the Hainaut-Avesnois district, it is now present in all the areas with favourable habitat. The population is estimated to 94-147 pairs.
