Article summary

The Mallard often chooses a low place to breed, more exceptionally over ten meters high trees. On the other hand nests on rocks are not mentioned in literature. However, several cases are reported in the Province of Namur (Belgium) as well as nests on buildings in Brussels. The local scarcity of potential breeding sites (residential environment and roads) and the predatory pressure (notably cats) can explain such a choice for breeding ducks.
